We’re excited to share some wonderful news: our Media Center has been selected as a recipient of a Project Learning Garden grant through the Captain Planet Foundation’s Project Learning Garden contest!
A special thank-you goes to Mrs. Wendy Belcher, our fabulous librarian, for taking the time to apply for this grant opportunity. Mrs. Belcher also serves as the advisor for our Garden Club, and her leadership and vision continue to create meaningful learning experiences for students.
What this grant means for our school
This grant will help us expand learning beyond the library walls into an outdoor “living classroom,” where students can read, write, explore science concepts, practice math skills, and collaborate through hands-on, inquiry-based learning.
What we’re receiving
As part of the Project Learning Garden package (valued at $7,500), our school will receive resources designed to support garden-based learning, including:
Five raised garden beds
Soil, seeds, and gardening tools (with a wagon)
A mobile cooking cart
to prepare garden-fresh recipes
Online lessons and literacy materials
connected to garden learning
Science supplies
to support project-based learning
Professional development and training
for teachers
Summer maintenance strategies
to keep the garden growing
What’s next
In the coming weeks, we’ll share updates as we begin planning the garden space and scheduling volunteer opportunities. We’re looking forward to seeing students learn through planting, observing, measuring, reading, researching, writing, and celebrating what we grow together. Thank you, Mrs. Belcher, for helping bring this opportunity to our school—we can’t wait to watch our garden (and our learning) grow!
